The History of the Mint Julep Band
It all began back in 1985, in a neighborhood on Jacksonville’s Westside. Like so many other bands that have come out of Jacksonville, it started out with a dream and the talent to rock. The founder of the group “Mark Cornuet” tells how it all began:

Q: How did the group get started?
A: I had been playing guitar for seven years when I met our original lead guitarist, Matt Miller. Matt loved to play lead, and I loved to play rhythm guitar and sing. In no time we were writing songs together. As with most bands you kinda go through different people until you find what works. We then found a bass player named Steve Traven, who was a great song writer also. And last but not least, Tim Brown on drums.

Q: How did you get the name for the band?
A: We were having a problem finding a name for ourselves. We thought about all the numerous bands that had Southern “something” in their names. We didn’t want to do that. My step dad said “Why don’t you name the band Mint Julep.” I said, “What is a Mint Julep?” He told me that it was the official drink of the Kentucky Derby. You know, the old south, sitting on your front porch with the big white pillars, sipping on a Mint Julep. It was very unique, like we were. (One of a kind) That was how we got the name for the band.

Q: Were there any other members of the band?
A: Around 1989, we got a new bass player. (Gary Magnasco) Gary added a lot of good bass lines and complimented the group.

In 1991, all members went on to pursue other interest. In 1996, the band got together and put on a five year reunion show. Once again the band served up the original songs that their fans loved. That was the last time Mint Julep played together….. Until now.
